Meghan Inspired Style

It has been over a year since The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan released their shock statement announcing their departure from the Royal Family and intention to carve out a progressive new role in which to become financially independent. And that they have certainly achieved. With their speculated millions-worth Netflix deal pending, and their mental health focused podcast Archewell Audio, I think it’s safe to assume that Meghan and Harry are very much on the financial train of independence.

But let’s face it, it’s not like these two aren’t used to making a splash. And love Meghan or loathe her, there’s no denying the girl has got style. Whether her hair is long and flowing, or tied up in a messy bun Meghan just oozes a certain je-ne-sais-quoi (except nous savons quoi…) Her laid back American boho-chic teamed with the demure elegance expected of the British Royal Family is truly a sight to behold indeed.

Here are some of Meghan’s looks you might be able to get your hands on right now. All online of course. And here’s the good news – some of these items are still in the sale!

Not that we have anywhere to wear them…

Maybe it’s because I wore a green outfit much like this every day for 12 years, and I look back on my old uniform through rose-tinted glasses, but this outfit is just so chic. It is structured and relaxed all at the same time. I love the simplicity of the jewellery which compliments, and the nude heel. And who doesn’t love a messy bun?!

So, I found the actual Hugo Boss skirt online in Brown Thomas (slightly different colour mind – Meghan’s skirt is forest green and the one I found is seltori) and believe it or not it’s on sale at the moment – €195 down from €392 – bargain right?

Now this is a beautiful skirt, and if I had the bank account to support it, I might consider, but if you’re like me and think that €195 is a bit much to spend on a skirt that nobody on your zoom call will see, then take a look at the Forever New skirt also available from Brown Thomas. This is also on sale down from €75 to a much more palatable €24.99. Not bad for a leather skirt, and sure you’d look massive mopping the floor in that hun!

Delightful in (not) Denim.

I’ll be honest with you here… I always thought this was a denim dress. It was only when I began doing a bit of research for this post I learned that was not so. But still, there are plenty of Meghan inspired denim dresses on the market – and paired with an effortlessly chic pair of espadrilles and shades…

Take me to Dubrovnik now!

Meghan obviously loves this Victoria Beard dress because like her sister-in-law Kate, she has been snapped wearing this dress on more than one occasion.

Well, If re-wearing your fave outfit is good enough for the royals…

So needless to say, the options that I present to you are of course denim but that does not make them any less fabulous. It’s all in the shoes anyway, But more on them later.

A Moroccan Dream

I absolutely adore this look!

It is fun and playful, and chic and stylish all at the same time! Meghan wore this outfit while on tour in Morocco in 2019. The little black dress teamed with an off-white, Ivory or cream blazer has long been a style classic, but what really caught my eye in this ensemble were the earrings. Meghan wears Onde Gourmette by Gas Bijoux (top right) currently retailing at €155 on 24S.com. But you don’t need to spend quite as much to emulate this effortless style. If you’re willing to shop around you can find some similar pieces, like these earrings I found on Etsy, priced more reasonably at €19, €41.06 and €15.13 respectively.

And I’m sure most of us have a LBD at home that’s just about suitable for any occasion!

Throw in a blazer like the Relaxed Soft Crepe Blazer, €46 from Next (bottom right, left hand side), or the Urban Bliss Double Breasted Blazer from New Look was €49.99, Now €30 (bottom right, right hand side).

And definitely the first outfit I’ll likely wear if this tortuous lockdown ever ends…

Okay… Let’s talk Espadrilles.

Can we please take a moment to appreciate Meghan’s total devotion to her espadrilles? I don’t know if it’s because we’re living in a endless winter or just what it is really… but seeing Meghan modelling these shoes are giving me absolute shoe envy, and shoe goals.

And to be fair, the ones she wears by Castañer aren’t actually all that expensive but if you still don’t feel like parting with €110 for a pair of shoes you’ll likely only wear in the summertime, fear not! I’ve found some pairs for a fraction of the price but just as much style!

On the left are the actual Castañer Espadrilles worn by Meghan (disclaimer: not actual). They are available to buy on net-a-porter.com for €110. In the middle are the Black Canvas Ribbon Ankle Tie Espadrille Wedges from New Look, €29.99. And also from New Look on the right are the peep-toe Black ankle tie Espadrilles at an absolute bargain of €10.

Ah! I can just about smell the sea air…

Happy Shopping!

Looking back on this post I realise that all these outfits have a distinct summer vibe to them. And while completely unintentional, perhaps it’s indicitave of a longing for brighter days, a warmer climate, an endless flurry of garden parties with summer salad and rosé (cue Harry Styles Watermellon Sugar High…) and the freedom to see our families and friends again without having to count how many people can legally sit in your kitchen for a cup of tea.

Brighter days are ahead. We just need to get through the proverbial winter.

Now excuse me while I stock up on my duchess inspired wardrobe…

‘Til next time guys!

Lainey 😉
