January: This month I’m…

Re-watching Breaking Bad

Yeah Bitch!

Re-living the misadventures of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman is quite literally giving me life, and getting the kids up to bed in the evening faster than you can say Heisenberg.

And although melting bodies in bathtubs isn’t exactly my thing, I just cannot get enough of the drama, the drugs, the science and of course Walt – chemistry teacher turned drug lord, and Jesse – his addict former student with a heart of gold. We’re on season 3 now and I’m amazed by how much I’ve forgotten which is great really, because it’s like watching it new all over again.

Wonder if I’ll feel the same way about Game of Thrones in years to come…

This video gave me a little giggle!

Studying – new modules

Moving college lectures from campus to online has been a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, it cuts down on travel time, cost and on James rushing home in the evening so I can haul-ass up to Drury Street car park in the middle of rush hour, but studying from home and doing exams with kids in the house has been well, challenging to say the least.

And procrastination is at an all time high…

But alas, we soldier on and this semester will usher in new modules for me to get my teeth into. Very exciting. The more in-depth I go with this course, the more I love it (ahem, except Freud… although really looking forward to covering The Interpretation of Dreams this semester).

Buying school uniforms

I don’t know about you, but my children have shot up since the first lockdown in March. I look back at photos of this time last year and feel like my babies have been replaced with monsters. My 8-year-old son is up to my nose already and I have a sneaking suspicion that he’ll catch up on me completely by the end of the year. When he made his Communion before Christmas he looked more like he was making his Confirmation. And my 10-year-old daughter has pre-teened to the max. It’s like having a lodger or au-pair in the house (except she doesn’t do anything). But they have totally outgrown the uniforms I bought for them in September.

September.

For the love of god! And they need new shoes too. For all donations please see my go fund me page.

Although with current covid daily figures soaring god only knows when they’ll be wearing them again…

Bracing myself (and the kids) for Homeschool.

I feel at this point that this is an inevitability that should be accepted. The current covid numbers are alarmingly high and though I am not an avid newswatcher, these figures simply cannot be ignored.

I am however very much in favour of suspending school work and extending the school year into the summer in the interest of catching up, instead of delivering a compromised education (I speak only of my own homeschooling abilities here!) alternative to the kids.

Who’s with me?!

*Hears crickets…*

Taking it easy

Christmas shopping after a 6-week lockdown was not fun. Neither was having assignments due every week on the lead up to Christmas. Throw work, two birthdays, a Communion and four kids into the mix, and this momma is wiped! Thank goodness there were no Christmas plays to attend this year! Although to be completely honest, I think I look forward to their school concerts the most. (That’s what a childhood of being a stage brat will do to you. Ahem! I performed in the Gaeity you know…)

Hitting the Reset button on Health and Fitness

2020 really was a grenade thrown into the middle of my fitness routine. And in the greater scheme of things that really doesn’t matter. But it did make for quite a lot of mental health lows. So with that in mind, I am now taking the perspective that my fitness is something to be nurtured rather than endured. And as much as I abhor the concept of self care (which by the way a bath with candles is not…) it is something which must be prioritised. I prefer to think of it as being kind to my future self, or slowly but surely…

One of my absolute favourite channels to follow for workouts are Boho Beautiful. Yoga, Pilates, Mediation and Mindufulness. Each video shot on location in stunning scenery. These workout videos are such a treat for the body and soul. I have been following them since 2017, and have absolutely no intention in changing that.

Sad that all my coffee is gone

Yes, I am married to the coffee guy and no, this is not a coffee plug. I am just genuinely sad that my Coffee Perfection Festive Blend is gone. Luckily, I have an endless supply of coffee bags (life changing by the way) in the ether (One of the perks of being a coffee widow). I’m pretty excited to try their new nespresso capsules.

Little drops of perfection indeed

Coffee and chats at mine when all this is over! I’ll gladly run a takeaway service in exchange for chats.

Til next time!

Lainey 😉
