Eating for Energy

Right, That’s it! I’ve ignored it for long enough now and it’s starting to show. I’ve let my healthy eating slip from my tight, controlling grasp.

In favour of convenience, I have been reaching for “healthy snacks” rather than proper meals. A slice (or three) of pizza here and there, and (the ultimate sin..!) skipping meals.

Like, What the hell?!

Summer time is my least favourite time of year. Not because the kids are home from school all day long and I’m teetering the line between insanity and “the weird lady from up the road who wears different shoes”

Not because if I hear “Mammy!” one more time I’m likely to plunge sharp pencils into my ears in order to hear ANYHING else.

And most certainly not because of the Irish weather.

I mean, come on! We pray for the sun to shine all year long…

But Summer time is my least favourite time of year because my routine just stops. Completely. Dead in the water.

Tired I am with the inevitable constant bloat that goes hand in hand with eating for convenience. And tired I am of having zero energy for anything at all.

I am exhausted, bloated and overworked (‘cos 4 kids…)

I played football with the local mammies last night. Once a week the mammies meet to train and play a match. And I had a ball (Ahem…!) But my christ, I was unfit! Just flat out exhausted! And I think it’s mostly down to diet.

My mantra (yes another one!) when I decided to eat exclusively healthy all those years back was “Eating for Energy”

A mantra I still use.

I understand that we’re all just people, not robots, and that you go through ups and downs, and that’s fine by me. I’m an easygoing gal.

But when all the hard work I’ve been putting in for months or even years start to slip away in a frenzy of careless eating and lack of exercise (because, no energy..) well that’s when I start to panic.

It’s almost like a rubber band reaction.

And I am utterly AMAZED by how much of an impact this has had on my energy! I’m a busy woman. I simply can’t afford to spend my days moping around the house because I’m too tired to do anything.

So, as the summer changes to (beautiful) autumn, my tight controlling grasp will return. As I plan the kids lunches, I will be planning our meals.

My meals will be based around this sample menu

Breakfast

Chocolate, Berry & Almond Porridge

Lunch

Tuna salad Pitta with rocket, tomato and homemade garlic dip

Dinner

Vegan Chilli with Quinoa and Brown Rice

Snacks

Greek yoghurt with Banana and Cacao Nibs

Scrumptious! Can’t wait to get started!

Lainey 😉
